Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke, the first Black woman to run the Justice Department s Civil Rights Division, says voting discrimination persists in the United States. Equal access to the ballot box is one of her department s top priorities. We have made a lot of progress as a nation. But we ve still got a long way to go,  she told CBS News chief national affairs and Justice correspondent Jeff Pegues in her first TV interview since taking office last year.Clarke said new state voting restrictions are targeting people of color.                                         Voting discrimination is alive and well,  she said.But, sh stanley us e said, she doesn t view the issue as partisan.         I was there at the White House when President Bush signed the last reauthorization of the bill into law. Police responded to the scene of a suspected hostage situation in Valparaiso, Ind., Friday, May 25, 2012.                              stanley cup                          CBS Chicago                                         CBS  VALPARAISO, Ind. - Valparaiso police have swarmed a real estate office building, where a man with a gun is inside and is believed to be holding hostages, CBS Chicago reported.Police received a 911 call about a man with a gun inside the Prudential Real Estate office building at 10:30 a.m., Valparaiso police Sgt. Mike Grennes said.A worker reached at a nearby Family Express store told the station that their corporate office ordered them to shut down after reports that a man had shot two people and was holding hostages. That information could not be immediately confirmed by police.                                         A 911 dispatcher said there were reports that shots were fired but it was unclear if the gunfire happened inside or outside the building. As of just before noon Friday, the man was still in the building. A witness from a nearby tire store tells WBBM Newsradio that the gunman has at least two hostages.
